His mother Celeste Cuckoo has been appointed guardian and conservator of his estate. hometown San Fransisco, California ethnicity Caucasian sexual orientation Asexual - does not experience sexual attraction/lack of interest in or desire for sex. mutation Urien is a telepath of the highest order. While his cousins were created to replace the lost sisters that made up the Five-In-One, Urien had been conceived to be their opposite equal. He is an opposing force that is interconnected and interdependent to the Hive, giving rise to each other in turn. Although he is an instrument of the Hive, Urien is not part of them, nor are his powers amplified by theirs. Urien has very strong telepathic abilities that allow him to: sense, send, and pick up thought patterns; create mental illusions; change memories; create telepathic camouflage, project to the astral plain and dilate powers. Urien also possesses advanced cognitive and mental abilities allowing him to organize and construct his thoughts at accelerated rates, process data at high speeds, and construct and formulate his thoughts with vast quantity and quality. He has the potential of becoming an omnipath; a superhuman telepath so powerful that he can hear the thoughts of every being on the planet. However, he would not be able to block the thoughts out, and thus his mind would constantly be filled with six billion voices. The Hivemind, in addition to pharmaceutical means, is able to suppress this power in Urien. skills/talents Urien learned to play the piano from his Aunt Mindee. His technique and skill are impeccable, but his performances are often lackluster. He is incapable of causing the music that he plays to inspire emotion. To him, music is little more than notes on a page, a simple system of sound organized by time. personality Urien is quiet, shy and logical to point of coming off as cold. Unlike his mother and aunts, Urien has emotions. Although, no thanks to the sterile environment in which he was raised, he has a difficult time expressing himself. Even before his mental health began to deteriorate, the simplest of human interactions eluded him. To him, emotions are not something he can easily quantify and therefore finds them to be impractical. At a young age, Urien began displaying characteristics of a person with obsessive-compulsive disorder. At first his compulsions manifested themselves as hand-washing rituals, then later developed into a series of obsessive counting and re-counting tasks, all circulating around the number six. The distress, anxiety and depression his compulsions cause make it hard for Urien to do little else in life other than go to school. He cannot hold down a job, and needless to say, apart from his cousins, has no friends. Urien has always been plagued by the awareness of his limitations. He knows that he is intelligent, but is also cognitive of the fact that he can never put his knowledge to use due to his crippling psychosis. Often he is content just existing for the betterment of the Hive, although there are times, few and far between, that he wishes for more from life. immediate family Quentin Quire (father); Celeste Cuckoo (mother); Phoebe Cuckoo (aunt); Mindee Cuckoo (aunt) family history Young Quentin Quire was one of the top students at the Xavier Institute for Higher Learning, and was at a time inspired by Professor Charles Xavier's dream of human/mutant brotherhood. Devastated after learning that he was adopted, Quentin was pushed over the edge following the death of renowned mutant fashion designer, supposedly at the hands of humans. He began to doubt Xavier's teachings, and developed a more negative and hostile view of the world and of humankind. Quentin became addicted to the new designer drug "Kick," which increased superhuman mutant powers but also altered the brain's metabolism. Quentin assembled a group of others that shared his beliefs about humans, calling them the Omega Gang, and set about attacking both innocent humans and mutants alike. Quentin and the Omega Gang captured Xavier during an Open Day at the Institute and fomented a student riot. While the X-Men easily defeated the Omega Gang, the identical telepathic quintet named the Stepford Cuckoos sought to oppose Quentin. One of the Cuckoos, Sophie, whom Quentin was infatuated with (much to her chagrin), empowered her sisters by taking a dose of "Kick" and utilizing the X-Men's mutant-locating device Cerebra to magnify their telepathic powers to a level higher than Quentin's. Defeating him, the strain seemingly proved too much for Sophie and she died. Due to his abuse of "Kick," Quentin underwent a secondary mutation that caused his physical form to discorporate, leaving him a disembodied mind trapped in a containment unit. Later, when the cosmic avatar known as the Phoenix Force returned to Earth, its presence influenced Quentin to reconstitute himself. Creating a new physical form, he sought out his beloved Sophie. Remembering her death, Quentin exhumed her corpse and sought out the Phoenix Force to help resurrect her. However, upon seeing Quentin, a disgusted Sophie chose instead to return to death. The Force ultimately merged with Jean and left, after which the heartbroken Quentin returned to his disembodied state. personal history With a mother that is the part of the emotionless hivemind of the Three-in-One and cousins that are little more than Thing 1 and Thing 2, things like "different" and "crazy" were just part of the day-to-day doldrums growing up in the Cuckoo household. Unlike his cousins, who were produced to restore power to the Three-in-One, Urien was bred to be their complementary opposite - a ying to their yang. Instead of using sperm from an anonymous donor, it had been decided that Celeste would use genetic material from former rival and omega mutant Quentin Quire to impregnate herself. Urien was different than his family, he was special and it was quite clear that he was very gifted. He developed much quicker than children his age and was already communicating telepathically with his mother and aunts before he even learned to speak. When his cousins were learning to tie their shoes, he was disassembling lawn mowers to see how they worked. He was always more interested in learning and studying than being outside like other children. By age twelve, Urien had already graduated from high school, summa cum laude. He could have attended any college he wanted, fully paid for by academic scholarship, however things took a turn. He was becoming more powerful than any of the Cuckoos could have predicted and the pressure was beginning to get to him. He had no one to relate to, and furthermore no one to confide in. His mother and his aunts didn't care and his cousins were too involved in themselves to notice. Even as young as thirteen, Urien could feel his mental stability start to slip away and as a result developed obsessive-compulsive tendencies. Every time he washed his hands it had to be six times, light switches had to be flicked on and off six times, doors had to be locked and unlocked six times, buttons had to be done and undone six times. Things seemed to get worse for Uri after his cousins left. Each day offered new challenges for his fading lucidity and his perceptions of reality began to slip. The now Three-in-One attempted to negate his omnipathic tendencies by establishing mental blocks within his mind. While the blocks prevented Uri from being able to read everyone's minds at one time it did little good a preventing the auditory hallucinations he was still experiencing. A month later Urien was diagnosed a schizophrenic with a mild form of Asperger syndrome. Despite the court case won by his cousin to be emancipated from his mother, Celeste was successful in being named guardian and conservator of her son's estate. A full time nurse had been appointed by the court to guarantee Urien received the care he needed in addition to attending therapy four times a week. The road to recovery has been a long and winding one for Urien Quire, who for the first time in his life is leaving the care of the Three-in-One collective. At the behest of his therapist to be free and live his life and figure out who he is, Urien moved to New York and enroll at Empire State University, where he studied quantum physics and theory and applied mechanics and earned a doctorate in both subjects. He has now returned to Utopia to continue to fulfill his duties and has accepted a position as teacher at the Lensherr Greymalkin school.
